Ways I Discover Music Part 1: Girls in Videos
Everyday I am amazed at all the different avenues I have for music discovery. I’m going to start outlining some of them starting with one of the more interesting ones. I run a video aggregator site so I watch a lot of videos. Sometimes these videos contain hot girls. Sometimes these videos contain good music. Three such examples: Lev Dub: Summer Love When: In the past month Song: Justin Timberlake - Summer Love I hate Justin Timberlake. The stuff I’ve heard I’ve hated. The stuff I haven’t, I’m not interested in giving a chance. Then this video comes along. And then this song gets stuck in my head for days at a time. It’s probably one of my most played songs on my iPod in the past month. A tribute to every video site When: About a year ago Song: The Orion Experience - Obsessed With You The video is pretty funny and entertaining and the song starts at the 1:35 mark and only goes on for about 30 seconds but is so catchy I crawled through pages of YouTube comments to find out who it was. Kate’s Playground When: About 3 years ago Song: Maroon 5 - Sunday Morning This isn’t the actual video because I couldn’t find it but you get the idea. This girl posts videos of her self dancing/groping/stripping online, but sometimes she has really good music playing in the background. I remember watching the video a few times so I could catch enough lyrics to Google it. Other interesting findings: all the music I’ve discovered via girls + videos have been ridiculously poppy music that I probably would have never given a chance to otherwise. Recommendations: In a band? Get some hot girls to post homemade videos dancing to your music. If I were a marketing firm, I’m convinced that this would work. Hell, maybe I should pick an unknown pop song and try it. Bonus Discovery: I discoverd the CSS song “Music is my hot hot sex” from this iPhone commercial that a fan made and Apple picked up and aired.
