NetSquared Mashup Challenge Voting (till Monday)
Do me a personal favor AND get your good deed for the weekend out of the way right now by going to NetSquared, registering and voting for your favorite mashup proposals.
NetSquared puts on a conference once a year to bring together tech + nonprofit people together to help create actual change in the world. Thankfully they have the funding to actually make this happen. They run this Mashup Challenge and the top 20 winners (decided by YOUR vote) will all be provided with airfare + hotel to the conference in May. Then during the conference $100,000 will be distributed across these winners to see these projects through. It’s really a beautiful thing.
I actually spoke at the 2006 conference giving a talk called Changing The World (with mashups) and have been following Billy Bicket’s work since then. I’m most excited to see a close resemblence of one of my mashup ideas I proposed in my presentation finally making it to the board as “Volunteer Now by mobile phone”. I think it could be pretty awesome to be able to get/send texts when you have some extra time on your hands if there is something you can volunteer nearby (library, blood, homeless etc).
You get 10 votes to cast, but my favorite is:
Volunteer Now! - by mobile phone
My other 9 worthy contenders:
Before I Travel
Non-Profit Nexus
Block Party Neighborsourcing
Love Me Sexy
Change Broadcasting Channels
SocialHub - Dashboard for Social Change [New Mashup Project]
We Greenwash You
Advocacy Email Index (working title)
Planning for the People
I believe there are over 50 proposals, so feel free to look around if you don’t like mine.
THANK YOU!
